Ed and I (Ales Zivkovic) talk about how he is helping shape the future of mental health in the US tech industry
Ed Finkler (also known as Funkatron) started making web sites before browsers had frames. Currently, he is the CTO at Graph Story.
He served as web lead and security researcher at The Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS) at Purdue University for 9 years. Along with Chris Hartjes, Ed is co-hosting the Development Hell podcast.
Ed’s current passion is raising mental health awareness with his Open Sourcing Mental Illness non-profit corporation. A campaign that addresses mental health issues in the tech community.
Ed joins us from Lafayette, Indiana, to talk about his encounter with mental health and psychotherapy already in his teens, when he was combating ADHD and anxiety in general.
In this podcast he also talks about how it was working in tech environment with mental health challenges accompanying him every day.
We also touch on the question whether people should really wait to come to the point when it is necessary for them to find a psychotherapist or should they in fact use psychotherapy as means to increase of quality of life.
Ed also explains what he is doing with Open Sourcing Mental Illness and how talking about his experience not only raised the interest of masses (here is his first talk about this) but also the interest of people willing to invest.
I hope you enjoy it!
